Wat maakt OCM zo bijzonder? Klein begonnen en uitgegroeid tot een gezelschap dat unieke producties op de planken brengt, zoals de Engelse ‘light opera’ (voorloper van de musical), die voorheen nauwelijks in Maastricht en omgeving werd geboden.

De voorstellingen worden in de oorspronkelijke taal gezongen, terwijl de gesproken tekst in het Nederlands is, zodat het publiek de lijn van het verhaal gemakkelijk kan volgen. Toegankelijke opera dus, met humor en met aanstekelijk enthousiasme gebracht. Dit enthousiasme komt ook terug achter de schermen: zowel décor als kostuums worden door de eigen leden gemaakt, onder leiding van een decor- en kostuumontwerper. OCM dient ook als podium voor beginnende solisten, maar er worden tevens koorleden ingeschakeld als solist. Zo wordt aan koorleden de gelegenheid geboden hun talenten te ontplooien. Op die manier groeit de professionaliteit binnen de vereniging.

Opéra Comique Maastricht (OCM) is an enthusiastic musical theatre company. It was founded in 1989 with the aim to perform comic operas. Distinguished by the unique character of its productions, this operatic society specializes in several genres such as the English 'light opera' (predecessor of the musical) and its French counterpart, the ‘opéra bouffe’. The performances are sung in the original language, while the spoken text is in Dutch. This way the audience can easily keep up with the storyline: accessible opera, brought to you with humour and infectious enthusiasm. This enthusiasm can be found backstage as well: members of the company make the scenery and costumes under the guidance of a stage and costume designer. The OCM serves as a springboard for beginning soloists, but members of the company also get a chance to perform solo. It gives them the opportunity to develop their talents. In this way the company is able to grow professionally.
